Early Life

David Cross was brought up in a Jewish family in Roswell, Georgia, USA. His parents emigrated from Leeds, England. When he was just a baby, his parent resettled in Florida and later Cross and his family remained in Roswell, Georgia where he spent most of his childhood. Cross is a caring brother of two sisters.

The family didn’t have much money. Cross remembers being displaced from their home and spending time in hotels and at friends’ houses as a child. Cross’s father left the family when he was just 10; the father and son did not talk to each other, despite the fact that they both lived in New York City until Cross sold his house in 2011.

Cross went to North Atlanta High School and graduated in 1982. During his studies, he was nominated treasurer of his class and voted “Most Humorous” by his fellow student.

David Cross Career

He began to start standup comedy at an age of 17. After graduation from Northside, he changed many houses until enrolling at Emerson College in Boston. Though he quit college the same year, he met John Ennis through a comedy sketch-club called ‘This is Pathetic’. In 1985, a group of young comedians set off on a road trip to Los Angeles.  He began performing as a standup comedian on a regular basis in Boston.

In 1990, a new class of comedians start to emerge at ‘Catch a Rising Star’ comedy club. Here Cross along with Janeane Garofalo, Louis C.K., and other comedy stars, performed several standups. He started performing comedy sketches each week along with a group of 12 comics called ‘Cross Comedy’.

Joe Frank, a radio artist, saw his standups and recruited him for radio shows. His political parodies were well-known. He appeared in HBO original ‘The Pride is Back’ in 1999. He recorded three tracks, that went popular, one of which being ‘Shut up You Fucking Baby’.

He was also nominated for a Grammys for best comedy album in 2004. Cross got his start in television as a writer on ‘The Ben Stiller Show’ and he was hired at the end of that project. He co-created the HBO’s sketch comedy series ‘Mr Show with Bob Odenkirk’ in 1995. He was featured in a number of well-known Hollywood films and television series. ‘I Drank for a Reason’ and ‘Hollywood Said No’ are two books published by David Cross.

Personal Life

Cross dated Amber Tamblyn for four years, then he proposed to Amber in August of 2011. They tied the knot in 2012. Tamblyn revealed in February 2017, that she and Cross had recently been blessed with a daughter. Despite being born and raised in a Jewish family, Cross admits being an atheist.

Cross is indeed a big fan of ‘Beastie Boys’ and friends with all the band members. He is also sampled at the start of the band’s song “Ch-Check It Out,” which was a part of their album ‘To the 5 Boroughs’.
