On May 30, 1980, Reminisce Mackie better known by her stage name Remy Ma was born in The Bronx neighborhood of New York City.

She was raised in a drug-abusing household forcing her to start working for her siblings at an early age. Remy used to pen songs about her experiences and challenges growing up in a disturbed family.

In high school, she started competing in rap freestyle battles, and quickly earned a solid reputation as being among the finest hip-hop artist in the community. Before she even realized it, bars and other local clubs in the neighborhood were playing her soundtracks.

In the late 1990s, the rapper Big Pun mentored Remy after seeing her rap skills and participating in a freestyle rap session alongside her.
